The junior tennis championships were held in Ennis tennis club on Aug 20th-23rd last. Over 50 junior participated with and the all weather courts ensuring play could continue despite the inclement weather. The finals were played out in poor conditions but nevertheless a large crowd of parents and club members came along to support the event.
The tournament was kindly sponsored by The Computer Store and by AIB Bank. The club is most grateful for their assistance.
The standard of play was very high all week and it was noticeable that large number of juniors who travelled to compete in open events throughout Munster came back with improved competitive experience.
The organising committee led by Junior Captain Mary Frances D’Arcy and including Anne Twomey and Brenda Foran ensured that matches went ahead right on time and that the various events ran smoothly. Other parents including Bill Twomey, Padraig D’Arcy, John Foran, Ger O’Brien and Kathleen Horgan were always on hand to maintain supervision and to assist with catering arrangements.
Caroline Foran, Daniel Foley, Daniel Foran and John O’Brien oversaw the younger aged groups’ events.
